food/ not food

Food is a minefield, seriously.  Eating is necessary, and if we don't eat, we die; but eating also seems dangerous, and often unappealing.  Eating (or failure to eat) is likely to invite judgment and criticism related to wellness, fitness, and body size.  Everything that lives is food for something else, and the end of everything that lives is death.

These sculptures of "food that is not food" began as an exploration of my own issues around food and eating.  They constitute an attempt to make visible to others a reality that I struggle to express in words.
